It is I

“But He said to them, ‘It is I…” John 6:20

It is I.

It is I,

Footsteps beside you

In the cool of the garden.

It is I,

Footsteps behind you in

The weariness of Sinai

Night.
It is I,

Gideon’s ram’s horn

And Isaac’s ram,

Elijah’s mantle

And the psalmist’s crag.
It is I,

Spirit over the face of the deep,

Dove over the Jordan.
It is I,

Naaman’s cleansing.
It is I,

Multiplier of fish,

Abundant bread in the

Wilderness.
It is I,

Water of life

Divine purifying wine.

It was I.
It is I.
I am.
Do not be afraid.

I am– Mark Schultz

“…as Shasta gaped with open mouth and said nothing, the Voice continued. “I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comfroted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you as you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you.”

Hi, there! My name is Stephanie and I’m a Fresno, CA native. After studying at Biola University, I received my MLIS (Masters in Library Science) from San Jose State University. I live with my mom, poet Kimberly Vargas Agnese, and serve as her unofficial agent. We reside at MeadowArc, a food forest in its infancy. I am called to, and passionate about, purity. In fact, the name Agnes means “pure.” Before I was born, my mom felt led to include the name Agnes in her name, and in the names of her children. My full, hyphenated name includes 26 letters (but not the whole alphabet).
