Jesus Slept

Jesus slept.

It sounds a bit like “Jesus wept,” though there’s no “Jesus slept” Bible verse.

But Jesus, human that He was, must have slept. I hadn’t really thought about it.

The one reference to Jesus sleeping that I could think of was during the storm. As far as I can tell, that’s the only place in the Gospels where we find Him in the act of sleeping.

Isn’t that interesting? I’ve heard sermons (and loved them) on how we can sleep, too, because Jesus is in the boat.

Today, I am struck by this being the only reference to Him sleeping. It’s in the middle of one of the more dangerous hours of His life.

That is when He was sleeping. God had Him, and He knew it.

Jesus slept.

Hi, there! My name is Stephanie and I’m a Fresno, CA native. After studying at Biola University, I received my MLIS (Masters in Library Science) from San Jose State University. I live with my mom, poet Kimberly Vargas Agnese, and serve as her unofficial agent. We reside at MeadowArc, a food forest in its infancy. I am called to, and passionate about, purity. In fact, the name Agnes means “pure.” Before I was born, my mom felt led to include the name Agnes in her name, and in the names of her children. My full, hyphenated name includes 26 letters (but not the whole alphabet).
