My Mom is just like Yeshua

Like Samuel in his linen ephod,

a little girl hearing the voice of the LORD

(only, she was taken from her father,

not given to the LORD)

Like Solomon, hearing a bereaved mother

[only, make that a bereaving mother, and (how is this possible?)

a five-year-old Shlomo]

Like Tamar at twelve, violated,

with no avenging Absalom

(only, toss in a couple more perverted family members)

But she loves like Yeshua.

Like Samson, fiery for her family

(only she’s the one who ought to be defended)

She is Ruth, loyal truth-seeker from a pagan land

(only with a mother-out-of-law instead of a mother-in-law)

She is a Jew of Jews, and a stranger to the “church”

when at sixteen, she sees MORE

the God who sees

and He sees her, like Nathanael,

under the tree.

She is like Peter, zealous for the Lord,

right down to wielding that

double-edged sword

(of truth)

She is the master of the banquet,

seeking children out on streets,

and they are not even her own

She loves like Yeshua.

She is like Abigail,

compensating for her husbands folly,

and she is the Hannah her mother was not

(but where is her Elkanah?)

But she is Deborah, anointed female head,

fierce  Thank-God-the-woman-wins-the-battle- fighter,

for her family.

and she is Elijah’s widow, raising children in the Lord.

In frightening times, seeing miracles

(only, she is Elijah, too)

She is Yeshua, loving.

She is Mary, and blessed is she who believes…

and also Mary, sitting at Messiah’s feet

Like Moses, leading her children of Shem through wilderness,

filled with bread from Heaven

She is Enoch, walking with God

She is just like Yeshua

Loving, a servant to many

Empowerer of the weak,

Raiser of the disheartened

Caller of children

Mouthpiece of God

Speaker of poetry

and parables

She is Yeshua,

Watching Yah multiply pizza

and Arby’s and

manna

Her life, like His,

a miracle.

Like Him, she loves

Hi, there! My name is Stephanie and I’m a Fresno, CA native. After studying at Biola University, I received my MLIS (Masters in Library Science) from San Jose State University. I live with my mom, poet Kimberly Vargas Agnese, and serve as her unofficial agent. We reside at MeadowArc, a food forest in its infancy. I am called to, and passionate about, purity. In fact, the name Agnes means β€œpure.” Before I was born, my mom felt led to include the name Agnes in her name, and in the names of her children. My full, hyphenated name includes 26 letters (but not the whole alphabet).
